2012 has not been a good year for this group. Only one student wanted to continue, disappointing and I ran out of enthusiasm for doing things at the school. My apologies must go out to Ben as he is still very enthusiastic but I am leaving mid-August and so this group will not continue. I do however hope to start up another group at my new school which isn't even in Australia so I am sitting amongst boxes and papers trying to pack up or sell everything and write the mid-year school reports. Maybe I'll be back here before I go maybe not. So if the latter is the case, all the best to everyone who takes the time to read this 'scribble' and bye until nest time, whenever that may be.

Our second meeting
Unfortunately, this meeting had to be cancelled. I was given a lunchtime yard duty and, of course, lunchtime is when we meet. This was probably just as well as none of our postcards had arrived so we couldn't send any more. What we were going to do was find a way of advertising or group so that we could have a few more members. I still need to decide on an agenda for next Thursday and send more postcards...

In the beginning...
Student Clubs were not my idea of fun, just hard work but I did start one which was reasonably popular but has since waned and it was fun (amazing). Lunchtime can be boring for some students and they would like to participate in something. Sports are fine but if you are anything like me as a teenager, you know can't run and can't hit a ball, not really for you so I thought something a bit more passive might be of interest.
So having recently started collecting postcards from around the world I wondered if the students would be interested.
Firstly I consulted with the teacher in charge and she thought it would be a good idea.
Secondly I put a notice albeit a little cryptic hoping to engender a bit more interest maybe not the best idea I've ever had.
Thirdly I went to the Post Office to buy some more postcards and stamps for posting overseas.
Here is where the first major hurdle arrived, funding. So I wrote a proposal and spoke to the Assistant Principal involved. This proposal is now with the relevant committee. Whether or not we get the funding I am determined that this club continues for as long as the students, no matter how few, keeps going.
Thursday 25th August 2011 lunchtime arrives and Ben is waiting. I give him the information leaflet that I have made to read while I go to the canteen to get lunch for myself. On the way back, having mentioned the club to quite a few students with no success, I spoke to Mandy and Emily who were interested and came to see what it was all about.
We looked at my collection, read the leaflet and spoke about some details and came up with a name for our club 'MSC Travellers'. MSC is our school and of course the postcards do the actual travelling. Then we joined 'Postcrossings' on the internet. Next we had to descibe ourselves for the profile which we left unfinished as we needed to chose 5 postcards to send. The 3 students chose 5 each from my stash then they placed these on the desk and each chose their 2 fabourites. Of the 6 postcards left on the table they each chose one and then 'voted' on which 2 of the 3 left we to be used. They really enjoyed this process as they needed to say why one postcard and not another should be chosen. Unfortunately at this point the bell went for class.
Having chosen the postcards I finalised joining Postcrossings, obtained 5 addresses to send the postcards to, wrote on the cards and mailed them. Now we wait and are hoping that at least one will have arrived by next Thursday when we meet.
